Director Raj Amit Kumar’s socio-political drama film Unfreedom unfortunately did not receive a clearance by the Indian Censor Board due to its highly volatile content on the lines of terrorism and sexuality. Kumar appealed to Indian Government’s Information and Broadcasting Appellate Tribunal FCAT who later completely banned the film regardless of cuts. However, the hindrance has not deterred Kumar’s spirit who is persistent on screening his film worldwide.
Kumar held a private screening of his riveting film at the Indian Institute Of Technology in Mumbai. The audience consisted of 400 students who were completely engaged throughout the screening of the film and also indulged in a long Q&A round which lasted for more than an hour.
Students of the IIT institute who thoroughly enjoyed the film gave a positive feedback to Kumar . The director is confident that the youth is aware of the world and reality and should not be mollycoddled.
Unfreedom will now be screened on 29th May in New York. Kumar states that any film can be screened publicly in the US without an American censor certificate. He questions about how his film has the freedom to be screened fearlessly on American soil by not on his own land.
