A total of seven films have been selected to ‘Indian Cinema Now’ section of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The films include two Bengali, three Hindi, one Marathi and a Tamil film.
‘Ek Hazarachi Note’ (Marathi), ‘Dagh Ujala’ (Hindi), ‘Myth of Kleopatra’ (Hindi), ‘Gour Hari Dastan’ (Hindi), ‘Pannaiyarum Padminiyum’ (Tamil), ‘89’ (Bengali) and ‘Nayanchampar Din Ratri’ (Bengali) were the films selected, according to a statement from Kerala State Chalachithra Academy.
‘Ek Hazarachi Note’ directed by Srihari Sathe depicts the story of a poor woman who receives a Rs 1,000 note followed by the game fate plays with her life.
‘Ye Dagh Dagh Ujala’, a profound piece of poetry written by Faiz Ahmed Faiz became the inspiration for ‘Dagh Ujala’ directed by Amit Kumar Raj.
The film highlights the desire to express the lack of freedom in the socio-economic structure of contemporary society. Hari Nair had cranked the camera for the movie.
‘Myth of Kleopatra’ (Hindi) was directed by M Adeyapartha Rajan.
‘Gour Hari Dastan’ directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan speaks about freedom fighter Gour Haridas who had to fight it out with the bureaucracy to get recognition.
‘Pannaiyarum Padminiyum’ is a comedy-drama film directed by debutant S U Arun Kamur featuring Vijay Sethupathi and Jayaprakash in lead role.
The film revolves around an old man and his love for his vintage car ‘premier Padmini’.
Bengali Film ‘89’ by Manoj Michigan revolves around a psychiatrist, a police inspector and a serial killer.
‘Nayanchampar Din Ratri’ directed by Sekhar Das tells the story of a middle-aged servant.
The movies were selected from a total of 55 films by a selection jury comprising renowned filmmakers Lenin Rajendran, K Madhupal and film critic M C Raja Narayanan.
